UCLA Biologist claims Prop 37 anti-science

What I can’t figure out is how anyone can make out Prop 37 as

‘anti-science’?   IF the scientific data presented by Monsanto, Dow, and

DuPont was ‘actual and rigorous’ science then most of us having issues

with GM foods either wouldn’t ( because the foods are actually safe ) or

would ( because the foods aren’t safe ).  The fact is simply that the

‘science’ produced by these companies does not meet basic standards for

controls; is not independently funded.  No controls and self funded?

That’s not science.

Therefore, being against PROP 37 isn’t

anti-science whatsoever.   What we want is labeling!!  Prove to us with

unbiased research that GM foods are safe for me to consume, safe for the

environment, and unquestionably more sustainable than conventional and

organic methods then I’m willing to trust the ‘science’.  Without this

assurance, we can only assume that these companies are more interested

in their profits than the health and wellness of the individual

consuming their products.

National Bulk Foods Week is here!

This week is National Bulk Foods Week.  Please visit your local grocer and see what they are doing to celebrate.  If your grocer doesn’t have a bulk section, have them visit our site or the Bulk is Green Council to find out how to include bulk food sets for their customers.  See the ‘bulk sets’ slide show here – http://www.bulkisgreen.org/photo-slideshow.aspx

PROP 37 still leading in Polls even after heavy campaign of lies and misrepresentations

The power of advertising has shown itself.  Since Monsanto, DuPont, and Dow, can’t provide factual evidence of the safety of their GM efforts they continue to pound the airwaves with inaccuracies and misrepresentations.  Even some newspapers, whose editorials had come out against Prop 37 called out the ‘No’ campaign for their lies.  Shouldn’t that be enough to realize that if these companies are willing to spend money to lie to you that you can’t trust them??  How could you vote any other way but YES on 37??  Let’s not let this continue as we have a choice this November.  YES ON 37!

The case for Prop 37 in the LA Times

Washing your hands after planting GMO seeds isn’t to get the dirt off!

While the battle for GMO labeling heats up, we found this little story in the Santa Monica Community College newspaper that offers some basic insight into the measure.  How do we know that we might want to consider a different approach than GMO?  The article says it best – “In the field, GM has to be treated as a pesticide, because pesticide is

built into it, so you have to wash your hands after planting the seed,”

said King. “The plant itself is the pesticide so you wouldn’t want it

on yourself, but at some point it’s harvested and, suddenly, it’s food.”

I don’t remember ever having to wash my hands after planting my spring garden, except to get the dirt off.  This particular statement drove home the GMO point for me.  Pesticide built in and suddenly after harvesting it’s food??  Common sense and appropriate science tell me that this isn’t a good idea.  I say appropriate science since the offerings of the GMO companies leave a lot to the imagination in regards to quality protocols and rigorous safety monitoring.  I also never hear of any Monsanto executives willing to eat only a GMO based diet.

‘No on 37’ campaign continues to mislead-In case you missed it!

The latest salvo by the ‘no’ folks is a press release entitled ‘In case you missed it’ which states that 34 newspaper editorial staffs have come out against Prop 37.  It suggests that we, the People, are missing something.  REALLY??  I don’t think so.  First off, 15 of those newspapers listed in the press release are owned by two media corporations, Media News Group and McClatchey Corp.  Those aren’t 15 independent editorial boards, those are only two editorial boards with big advertising and corporate ties to many of big business supporters of the ‘no’ campaign.  Here’s the link to the release so you can see for yourself.  Look up these newspapers and see ‘WHO’ is really speaking!  http://www.sacbee.com/2012/10/08/4893227/no-on-prop-37-in-case-you-missed.html

FYI, the newspaper this misleading press release was published in was the Sacramento Bee, owned by the McClatchey Corporation.  As always, we must look deeper into the information being given us to get to the facts.

PROP 37 isn’t perfect but it’s not deceptive like the ‘no’ group wants to you to believe.  Not knowing what’s in your food and the food industry being willing to keep you in the dark is deceptive.  This November we ask you to join us in VOTING YES on PROP 37.
