Good news of the day! Wyoming wolf protections reinstated!

Monsanto in Ukraine
In the midst of the geo-political upheaval in Ukraine other threats are emerging. As part of the terms of an IMF loan, GM crop bans have been lifted which may lead to these crops having a backdoor to the European Union. Monsanto lobbying created led to this policy change of which most Ukrainians are unaware. Here’s a link to this story – http://rt.com/op-edge/183956-gmo-ukraine-monsanto-imf/
Judge Overturns GMO Crop Curbs in Hawaii
In Kauai County Hawaii, a law restricting GMO crops has been blocked by a federal judge despite heavy concerns over the spread of GM crops to Non GM fields via wind or insects and the lack of disclosure over the use of pesticide or herbicides by either the chemical makers or the seed companies. Here’s the story from the Wall Street Journal – http://online.wsj.com/articles/u-s-judge-overturns-gmo-crop-curbs-in-hawaii-1409009260
What we can’t understand is that whether or not GM products are being grown, why not understand the chemical use necessary to make the crop viable? Efforts to hide this information or block its release don’t make sense unless there is something to hide.
Ten things you didn’t know about food labels
Food labeling is a confusing business, especially for the consumer. The Christian Science Monitor offers this excellent piece on food labels – http://www.csmonitor.com/Business/The-Bite/2014/0821/Ten-things-you-didn-t-know-about-food-labels
Glyphosphate concerns grow!
The use of glyphosphate ( Monsanto’s RoundUP ) is growing and the result is superweeds that are decimating farms. Why is glyphosphate so popular? It is used in conjunction with GMO crops as a money saver by not having to till land between crops, reduce labor costs from hand weeding, and increase profit. Unfortunately, those savings are very short lived and now the weeds are winning. Rather than design a sustainable farming effort (rotation of crops, using real labor to handle weeds, and NonGMO seeds), American farmers continue to create more food problems for the future. They must use increasing amounts of herbicide as well as different chemicals in massive doses to fight off these resistant weeds which repeats the cycle. All of this, as the following article documents, so that the farmer gains another 10 years before other problems arise. Such short term thinking threatens all of us because our future generations (10, 20, 50, 100, 500 years) will be at risk due to a lack of willingness to utilize more labor intensive practices that will actually take care of the problem and reduce the long term environmental impact. Whether or not you believe that GM foods are harmful to the body, it IS clear that they are destructive to the environment.
